The Story Behind Our Farm Fresh Candles
Jan 20, 2025
At Franklin & Co. Flower Farm, our mission is simple: to bring the essence of our farm to you. Whether it’s through vibrant bouquets or something as timeless as a candle, we’re always thinking about ways to capture the beauty and scent of a flower farm in full bloom. This winter, as snow covered our fields, all we could smell was the scent of fresh flowers. Then one day my beautiful aunt suggested we add a line of candles our farm, and with that, our farm fresh candles were born!
Her suggestion inspired us. Why not create candles that capture the fragrance of our farm? That’s how our farm fresh candle line came to life.
Turning a Farming Passion into Candle Crafting
You might wonder how farming and candle making go together. For us, it’s about creating a product that extends the joy of the farm beyond the growing season. Our candles reflect the changing seasons and the beauty of nature, offering a little slice of farm life you can enjoy anywhere.
We didn’t want to just make any candles, we wanted them to represent the farm in every way. Each fragrance is inspired by the flowers we will grow and the environment around us. Think of it as a new way to experience the farm, no matter where you are.
Small Batch, Sustainable, and High-Quality
Our candles are hand poured in small batches right here on the farm. In fact, they re hand poured in our very small kitchen with care and precision! This allows us to maintain quality and ensure that every candle meets our high standards. Each one is poured into a large, 16 ounce sustainable glass jar that can be reused long after the candle is gone or donated back to us for our next batch of candles.
We chose natural soy wax because it burns cleanly, has an excellent scent throw, and is renewable. Paired with paraben, phthalate free fragrances and cotton wicks that are lead and zinc-free, our candles are designed to be as safe as they are enjoyable.
Sustainability is something we take seriously. Just like with our farming practices, we wanted our candles to have as little environmental impact as possible. Reusable jars, eco-friendly wax, and clean-burning wicks are all part of that commitment.
Our Signature Scents
We experimented with over 150 fragrance blends before landing on six that truly represent the farm. Here’s a closer look at each of our signature scents:
-
Tulip Fields: This fragrance captures the vibrant and fresh essence of tulip fields in full bloom, evoking the joy and renewal of springtime.
-
Peony & Blush: Inspired by the soft, romantic scent of freshly picked peonies, this candle offers a timeless elegance that brings a touch of luxury to any space.
-
Sunflower Glow: Embodying the warm, golden essence of sunflowers basking in the sun, this scent provides an uplifting and radiant aroma reminiscent of summer days.
-
Flowers and Fun: A playful blend that encapsulates the carefree spirit of summer, combining various floral notes to create a joyful and lively fragrance.
-
Sweet Pea and Rain: This candle brings the fresh, delicate fragrance of sweet pea blossoms kissed by a gentle rain, offering a clean and refreshing scent that invigorates the senses.
-
Flower Farm Air: Cory’s personal favorite, this scent captures the crisp, clean aroma of a walk through our fields. It mirrors the serenity of early mornings on the farm, making it perfect for creating a calming ambiance.
Each of these candle scents are hand poured in small batches on our farm in Northern British Columbia, using sustainably sourced soy wax and premium, phthalate and paraben free fragrances to ensure a clean and enjoyable burn.
The Candle Making Process
Making a candle isn’t as simple as melting wax and adding a wick, it’s a process that demands precision and creativity. We start by carefully measuring natural soy wax and melting it to just the right temperature. If the wax is too hot or too cool when the fragrance is added, the scent won’t bind properly, and the candle won’t smell as good when it’s lit.
Next, we blend in paraben and phthalate free fragrances, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the wax. Once the mixture is ready, it’s time to pour. Each jar is filled by hand in small batches, ensuring consistent quality. We use cotton wicks that are lead and zinc free, carefully placing each one in the jar so the candle burns evenly.
After pouring, the candles need time to cure for at least 14 days. This curing process allows the wax and fragrance to bond fully, resulting in a candle that delivers a strong and lasting scent. Once cured, we clean the jars, trim the wicks, and apply our labels, each step handled with care to ensure a beautiful, finished product.
Candle making is part science, part art. We quickly learned that things like wax temperature and wick size make a huge difference in how a candle performs. After many rounds of testing and adjusting, we created candles that burn evenly, last a long time, and fill a room with just the right amount of fragrance.
It’s not a quick process, each step requires care and precision. From melting the wax to pouring it into jars, everything is done by hand. It’s hard work, but seeing (and smelling) the finished product makes it all worthwhile.

What’s Next for Franklin & Co. Flower Farm?
The Candles: This is only the beginning. We’re already working on new scents for the upcoming seasons, including Pink Dahlia and Field Fresh Citrus. Both are shaping up to be fantastic additions to our line.
On the Farm: We are currently in full flower farm planning and we are immersing ourselves in flower farm education so that once the snow melts, we are ready to dive in!
We have been putting tentative u-pick dates on the calendar so you can experience the farm first hand. We have a couple workshops tentatively planned where you can learn how to make your own market bouquets after picking your own flowers directly from the field. Imagine spending a day on the farm, surrounded by flowers, and going home with a bouquet that you've crafted yourself.
