The Flower Shack: A Heartfelt Addition to Franklin & Co. Flower Farm
Building a Flower Farm from scratch is no small task, and one of the most exciting parts of this journey has been bringing our Flower Shack to life. Nestled at the corner of our property, the flower shack is more than just a structure, it’s the centrepiece of our farm, the home of our Bloom Bar, and the start of something beautiful we can’t wait to share with you.
Why We Built the Flower Shack
In many parts of the United States, roadside stands are a staple of farm life. These charming setups often offer farm fresh produce, flowers, or homemade goods, and they have always inspired us. When we decided to build Franklin & Co. Flower Farm, we knew we wanted a similar experience for our customers, a convenient and welcoming spot where they could stop by, grab a bouquet and a candle, and leave with a little piece of the farm.
But unlike traditional roadside stands, which are often small and open, we knew our flower shack needed to be more secure. Unfortunately, theft has increased in our area over the past few years, and we wanted to create a space where our products would be safe while maintaining the charm and simplicity of a farm stand. That’s how the idea for our cozy, secure flower shack was born.
A Peek Inside the Flower Shack
The Flower Shack is more than just a cute and charming structure, it’s been thoughtfully designed to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We’ve insulated the walls and added heating so that the shack stays warm and inviting, even on the cooler days of spring and fall. Whether you’re stopping by for a fresh market bouquet or one of our signature farm candles, you’ll always find a cozy space waiting for you.
The Bloom Bar will be the name of the event that will happen inside the Flower Shack. It'll be the heart of the flower shack, offering a self serve shopping experience where you can pick up a fresh market bouquet crafted with love and care or a farm inspired soy candle. Payment will be easy and flexible, with options for cash, credit card, and debit to make your visit as seamless as possible. We’re excited to create a space where our community can enjoy the beauty of fresh flowers and all natural soy candle without any hassle.
The Heart of the Bloom Bar: Family Crafted, Farm Fresh Bouquets
One of the things we’re most excited about is creating our farm fresh market bouquets. These won’t be just any bouquets, they’ll be a true family affair. Each bouquet will be hand crafted by me, my mom Ivy, or my daughter Emmy. It’s special to think that three generations will be coming together to design these beautiful arrangements.
We’ve spent months carefully selecting the flowers we’ll grow, focusing on colours and textures that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. For those who love bold and bright, we’ll have cheerful bouquets bursting with vibrant hues. For those who prefer a softer aesthetic, we’ll create neutral-toned arrangements with whites, off-whites, peaches, and blush tones. Each bouquet will reflect the beauty of the season and the personal touch of our family.
These neutral toned flowers will also be available in our DIY Bucket of Blooms, which are perfect for weddings or other special events. We’re especially excited to offer these for brides and grooms who want to create their own floral arrangements. With their soft, romantic colours, these blooms will be a stunning addition to any wedding. If you’re interested in DIY buckets, don’t wait, quantities will be limited this summer, and we’d love to reserve yours early.
A Walk-In Cooler: The Secret to Fresh Flowers
As we started planning our flower farm, we quickly realized that keeping our flowers fresh would be one of our biggest priorities. That’s why we’ve made building a walk-in cooler one of our top capital investments. Inspired by Erin from Floret, who lists a walk-in cooler as her number one recommendation for new flower farmers, we knew this was an essential addition to our farm.
A walk-in cooler is key to ensuring that flowers stay fresh from the moment they’re picked until they reach your hands. By maintaining the right temperature and humidity levels, the cooler will allow us to extend the life of our blooms and offer you bouquets that look and feel as fresh as the day they were harvested.
Once the Flower Shack is complete, building the cooler will be our next big project. Stay tuned for progress pictures and updates, we can’t wait to show you how it all comes together.
Preparing the Land for Success
While the Flower Shack and cooler are big parts of our journey, they’re only half the story. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard to prepare our land for planting. Living on sandy soil presents unique challenges, but we’re committed to creating the best possible conditions for our flowers to thrive.
This spring, we’ll be drilling a well to ensure we have a consistent water supply for irrigation. Proper hydration will be critical, especially as our flowers grow and bloom in the summer heat. We’ll also be amending our soil with compost and fertilizer to improve its structure and nutrient content, giving our flowers everything they need to reach their full potential.
It’s a lot of work, but we know it will be worth it. Watching these fields transform into rows of vibrant blooms is a dream we’ve been working toward for a long time, and we’re excited to see it all come to life.
Flower Farming is No Joke
While the work we are putting in the flower farm is much more than we expected, the journey has been so much fun! The Flower Shack, the walk-in cooler, the soil preparation, the hours of planning - it’s all part of a bigger picture.
At Franklin & Co. Flower Farm, our mission is to create a place where people can connect with nature, celebrate beauty, and enjoy the simple joys of life. Whether it’s a hand crafted bouquet, a flickering candle, or a peaceful moment on the farm, everything we do is about bringing a little more happiness into the world.
We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey. Every kind word, every purchase, every message of encouragement, it all means more than we can say. Thank you for believing in us and for sharing in our dream. We FEEL your excitement!
